Spartanburg police are investigating a claim that a man exposed himself to two teens in a young adult reading room at the Spartanburg County library.

Sheriff’s deputy brawls with judge in bar


An Anderson County Sheriff’s deputy is out of work and a county magistrate judge has been suspended following a bar fight. Deputy Gene Brock was terminated from his position after witnesses say he punched Judge Mike Smith, 45, at Malibu Sports Bar in Williamston after the judge became belligerent. Judge Smith is accused of grabbing a woman inappropriately and cursing bar patrons. Smith also reportedly cursed police responding to the scene. Both men face assault charges.

Rampaging allergy sufferer lifts 12 boxes of medication, attacks Wal-Mart employees
A 45-year-old Anderson man has been charged with two counts of assault and battery and shoplifting for allegedly stealing 12 boxes of over-the-counter allergy medication before attacking Wal-Mart employees who tried to detain him.


According to Anderson County authorities, Timothy Mark Grant stuffed 12 packages of Zyrtec and two packages of Prilosec OTC heartburn medication into his underwear and shoved past a 39-year-old woman while attempting to exit the store. Grant then allegedly bit the finger of a 47-year-old employee who wrestled him to the ground.

Gator unnerves residents, boaters near Broadway Lake


Residents living near Broadway Lake in Anderson County have been urging authorities to remove an alligator, the first ever reported in that county, according to one official, who estimated the gator to be between 3 and 4 feet long.


“People ask me if it’s safe to go fishing,” Capt. Bill Streiwing of the Anderson Co. Park Police told the Independent Mail. “We don’t have the Loch Ness Monster here, of course it’s safe to go fishing.”

Man swims to neighboring county while evading police

Horry County authorities say a man swam close to 600 yards—over a quarter of a mile—in attempt to evade police. Horry police told the Myrtle Beach Sun News they received a call about a suspicious person in the Mount Gilead subdivision and when they attempted to pull the man over, he led them on a chase to the Garden City Pier, where he jumped in the water and began to swim for it. Using a boat borrowed from Surfside Beach police, authorities finally pulled the man from the water near Murrel’s Inlet.


The man has so far not been formally charged with a crime and was taken to Conway Medical Center to recover.

Man checks out teens at library


Spartanburg police are investigating a claim that a man exposed himself to two teens in a young adult reading room at the Spartanburg County library. According to an incident report, two young girls claim that a 34-year-old-man known as “L.A.” walked into the teen reading room and “pulled his privates out.” The girls immediately notified a security guard. So far, L.A. has denied all charges, according to police.

Father tries to run over son with car in pre-Father’s Day dispute


A Chesnee man faces multiple charges after trying to run over his 16-year-old son after the teen stabbed him during an argument. According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, the teen confronted his father, Moses Isler, 41, about being drunk before allegedly stabbing him twice in the shoulder. Shortly after family pulled the two apart, according to an incident report, the elder Isler got into his vehicle and attempted to run over his son. He faces criminal domestic violence and assault charges.
