  • Cheri : National Take A Nakation Month follows in the tradition of Nude Recreation Week, a long successful promotion that typically falls in early July (July 7-13, 2008) and provides first-timers the chance to give clothes-free recreation a try at home or at one of the clothing-optional AANR and TNS affiliated clubs that open their doors to those who are curious during this time. Many of the affiliated clubs have activities and events planned throughout the month such as open houses, “canudeâ€

My list of open source software and freeware for Mac OS Panther 10.39

I have not listed every piece of software but have tested most things out there and these are the best programs I use regularly. If you use a later version of osX, in many cases there are updated versions or better programs than the ones on this list.

Must Have Applications:

Quicksilver app launcher Using ctl spacebar you can quickly launch any app or document by simply typing the first two or three letters. I know it sounds weird but it is the coolest app and you'll fall in love with it so much you probably won't use finder or your menu dock ever again. Just install it and give it a few days. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14831

Growl
Notifications
http://growl.info/files/Growl-0.7.6.dmg

Gmail notifier for Panther.
Works with growl.

Cyberduck

http://tc.versiontracker.com/product/redir/lid/996097/Cyberduck-2.7.3.dmg

FTP program better than commercial programs like Fetch in my opinion. Can transfer multiple files at once, have multiple server connections and Works with growl.

Neo Office:

http://www.neooffice.org

Open source program for panther based on open office. It is updated regularly and is better than MS Office for Mac. Universal...can open any text file and can save a file in any version you need. Has everything from presentations to databases. You'll crap your pants at the fact this is free. Abiword suck s on Panther...don't waste time trying any other program if you are using Panther.

Chat
Fire or Adium

http://www.adiumx.com/

iRC, MSN, Yahoo!, Gtalk, and AIM all in one program.

I use Adium because because it works with Growl notifications and I like its ridiculous app icon and system tray icon.

File Sharing

I'm still looking for an opensource file sharing program that will encompass torrents, video, mp3 sharing and podcasts. There's things like Miro out there but the search capabilities just didn't work. For now it is Cabos.

http://cabos.sourceforge.jp/

I suggest using Cabos for mp3 searching as it integrates great with Itunes. Plus Itunes is great at podcasts and music so for other file sharing use a web site like isohunt with Tomato Torrent.

Tomato Torrent- a great torrent app with a ridiculous icon

Utilities
Onyx

Great maintenance and cleaning utility for Mac OS X, versions available for all OSX systems although I have only used the Panther version.

Publishing
Scribus 1.33

http://www.scribus.net/

You won't need this program unless you do publication work and want an open source program that is similar to Quark. Versus paying for Indesign or Quark, I use it to publish a newspaper and have a great template available if you need to get started. I plan on offering it in the future to a greater journalism project in the works.

Web Browsing
 http://www.flock.com Flock is the future of web browsers. Log into a Flock supported service: Facebook, Gmail, Digg, Flickr, Yahoo! Mail or one of 19  supported services. Flock will automatically activate these services within its features.  This browser rocks.

Camino as of 1.61, I found to have script errors when using Gmail and downloads seem to take a moment before initiating. Camino is the best browser out there for Panther and it is an active product so look for an upgrade to try in the future.

For the Paranoid

Use the Internet anonymously using military grade techniques. Great if you are like me and enjoy investigating those that are investigating you. The truth is out there. I have to go, someone is following me.

This is how you use TOR with the Camino browser for OSX.

Enter about:config in the address field in Camino. Then enter proxy in the filter field.

Make these changes:

user_pref("camino.use_system_proxy_settings", false);

user_pref("network.proxy.type", 1);

user_pref("network.proxy.ftp", "127.0.0.1");

user_pref("network.proxy.ftp_port", "8118");

user_pref("network.proxy.gopher", "127.0.0.1");

user_pref("network.proxy.gopher_port", "8118");

user_pref("network.proxy.http", "127.0.0.1");

user_pref("network.proxy.http_port", "8118");

user_pref("network.proxy.socks", "127.0.0.1");

user_pref("network.proxy.socks_port", "9050");

user_pref("network.proxy.ssl", "127.0.0.1");

user_pref("network.proxy.ssl_port", "8118");

Restart Camino. Enjoy your privacy.
