INTRO
Peace and blessings! July just left us and August is definitely in
full effect. The kids are back in school, the Olympics keep getting
better, and the NFL and NBA both are preparing for their 2008-2009
seasons. Doesn’t get any better. Congrats to Columbia City Paper on the
3rd B-Day and its expansion into Greenville. Hope this reaches all of
you in great spirits. Much love to all the movers and shakers who put
on for this fine state. Let’s get it!

REVIEW
To ensure that you are enlightened about the great music that is
constantly made and released, but rarely supported by mainstream TV and
radio, I must inform you about one of the smoothest voices ever laid to
tape this side of the Mason-Dixon line: Dwele. Hailing from the Motor
City, Dwele has been pumping out audible soul since Y2K came and went.
Rize, his underground debut, did much to spark his buzz. Dropping his
major debut, Subject (Virgin) in 2003, and his sophomore follow up,
Some Kinda (Virgin) in 2005, Dwele possesses the one quality most
musicians don’t: consistency. His newest disc, Sketches Of A Man
(RMG/Koch), does much to uphold this fact. From insightful songs like
‘Vain’ or ‘Workin’ On It’, to the well-written ‘I’m Cheatin’ or the
reworking of ‘Open Your Eyes’ by Bobby Caldwell, Dwele is on his
A-Game. Having worked with J-Dilla, De La Soul, Kanye West, Slum
Village, Erykah Badu, Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest, and more has
only enhanced an already impressive musical resume. To be straight up,
you’d be remiss not to have this album in your collection. Go grab a
copy, grab your significant other, grab some cool lemonade, grab that
wood wheel, and enjoy!
