Sorry to open this installment on a down note, but I can’t help but get into the Gamecock mix. All due respect to Spurrier, I think old Lou may have had more success in his first four years here. In my opinion, the loss to Vanderbilt was due to coaching. There’s just no way that Vandy has more talent than South Carolina. The Gamecocks will probably play Georgia pretty well, seeing as the Bulldogs have essentially only played televised scrimmage games for the past two weeks. But, don’t get excited; we’ll probably only finish the season 5-7. We will get demolished by Florida and Tennessee and Clemson will likely beat us on a last-second play, like usual. I’m all for just throwing the season away and pulling for Garcia to get the start the rest of the season. Spurrier bet the farm on this guy so he might as well let it ride. Speaking of betting the farm...
Rice at Vanderbilt
Point Spread: Vanderbilt by 7
Vanderbilt, coming off the big win against South Carolina, has all the momentum to take apart a Rice team with one of the smallest enrollments in the nation competing at the Division I level. Rice is something you get as side when you order a “two piece, corn” at KFC.
They don’t stand a chance against a well-coached Vandy team with a solid quarterback and plenty of talent around him. I think he may lead the ‘Dores to their first bowl game since Christ walked the earth. I plan to take Vandy minus the points and make it my big bet of the week.
Penn State at Syracuse
Point Spread: Penn State by 26.5
With wins over Myrtle Beach and Oregon State, Penn State has really been tested this year. Syracuse won’t be much of test, either. The Nittany Lions will steamroll over a poorly coached Orangemen team. As a bettor, the only thing I have to worry about is JoePa letting up after Penn State gets out to a big lead. I still don’t think it will affect Penn State covering the spread, though. This is Penn State’s year to win the Big Ten. Mark my words: they will take the Big Ten. They will finally get past a rebuilding Michigan team and will overcome tests against two very good Wisconsin and Ohio State teams. I will be taking Penn State for $250.
Ohio State at USC
Point Spread: USC by 10.5
Let’s not get on the crazy train bandwagon of USC. They are a good team, but they are beatable. That’s why I am purposely taking this game and predicting the upset. Everybody is freaking out because Ohio State barely got past a mediocre Ohio team from a non-BCS conference. Anybody who has played sports could clearly see what was happening in that game. Ohio State was looking past that game to the big game against USC this weekend. They started the season off with two cupcakes and almost got caught with their pants down looking ahead to this game. I am taking Ohio State plus the points for $150. Also, because I’m 90 percent sure Ohio State will win this game outright, I’m taking Ohio State on the moneyline as a side bet. One hundred dollars on the moneyline will pay around a thousand dollars.
Good luck to all the teams this weekend. Remember we are already up this year so if don’t like something, don’t take the game.
Record this year 2-1. Up $1,170.
